Sunday, the 13th. Registration starts at 9:00 am. Proceeds benefit
the Le Roy Varsity Club.
The Children's Community Fishing Derby starts at 8 a.m. and runs till noon. This is a free activity for children up to 15 years of age. It is sponsored by a host of groups from the Le Roy Business Council to the Le Roy sportsmen's clubs and veterans organizations. Worms, donuts and juice are provided; all participants need to bring are a registration form, a fishing pole and the desire to enjoy themselves fishing. Prizes will be awarded for the largest, smallest and most fish caught for each of five age categories. Registration forms are available at The Bank of Castile, Le Roy Recreation Department, Northwoods Sportsmen's Club, Oatka Fish and Game, Le Roy Moose Lodge and Tom McGinnis Excavating and all weekend at the Vietnam Veterans' Booth on the creek bank. Volunteers are still needed to help with judging.
Anyone who wants to relax on the creek bank for a few hours and watch
delighted children's
faces as they measure a prized catch, can call Bob Dash at 820-1318
to sign up to be a judge.
The closing act of the Festival at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday is the 19th annual Duck Derby, sponsored by Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #193 of Le Roy. It's quite a sight, 2,000 little ducks floating across the creek towards hundreds of screaming fans. Twenty-five prizes are awarded for the speediest ducks. Tickets are available now at the Le Roy Moose Lodge, Spirits, Papa John's Eagle, Botts-Fiorito Post American Legion and various other locations. Ducks can also be purchased at the Vietnam Veterans' tent on the creek bank all weekend. |
